APN and parcel number are general names for local property identifiers. Washington, DC property tax research commonly uses the Square, Suffix, and Lot identifier, or SSL, so an address lookup should return and preserve the matching SSL.

There is no single nationwide parcel number format. A county or city defines the identifier used in its assessment and tax systems. A product should preserve the local identifier instead of replacing it with an undocumented internal key.
In Washington, DC, an SSL can contain a square, optional suffix, and lot. Some accounts use formats for condominium units, possessory interests, or related account types.
Resolve an address carefully
Enter a complete DC address or a known SSL. Exact normalized matches should win. Fuzzy suggestions should help the user choose an account but should not carry property facts until identity is confirmed.
